What's new in 2.31?
1. Six drives can be tested in a single session instead of four.
2. Record size can be set by a command line argument.
3. Results can be printed.
4. Spelling and grammar were corrected in this file!
This program was written to evaluate the performance of our Lantastic
network and compare the effects of various server settings and traffic
loading of the network. It reads and writes a series of records to any
drive you are using (drives D thru Z). Drive C: is considered your local
drive and cannot be tested. The program will test up to six drives in a
single session and display the results in Kbytes per second on the
screen or to a printer. Higher numbers indicate better performance.
Pressing F10 at any time during the test will terminate the test and
restart the program.
There are six command line arguments that may be used with Lanspeed Ver. 2.31.
/R=XXXX specifies the number of records to read and write. This can
be any number from 100 to 9999. 1000 is the default if none is
specified.
/S=XXXX specifies the record size to be used. Valid numbers are 64 to
1024. 1024 is the default if none is specified.
/T=XX:YY specifies the time to start the test. This can be used to start
the test running from several machines at once to evaluate how heavier
traffic is affecting your network. Enter this in 24 hr format such as
14:00 for 2:00pm. If this argument is detected, the program will wait
until the time you specified to begin execution. If you made a mistake,
such as specifying T=13:00 at 2:00pm, rather than wait 23 hours for the
program to run, you can press the ESCAPE key to return to DOS or the
ENTER key to begin the test immediately.
/MONO specifies to run the program in monochrome mode. Use this if the
program cannot determine it is being run on a monochrome system.
/P will print the graphs on your printer at the conclusion of the test.
Only ASCII characters are used so this should work on any printer.
/? or /HELP displays a screen of the above information.
